Q&A With Robbie

What are my hobbies and passions?

Hiking, meditation, breath work, movement/dance, eating nourishing foods, playing on playgrounds, and listening to classical and opera-style music.

If I were a landscape what would I be?

I am most definitely the desert, beautifully simple yet complex. I am diverse with so much wildlife, you just have to look closely. I teach myself and others to be okay with the simple things in life and find nourishment in the most unexpected ways. It doesn't take much for me to be happy. Less is more.

What makes me smile each day?

Waking up each day knowing I can make the day however I want it to be. I smile because of my fascinating and mobile body,  I smile at the diverse and magical plant life, I smile at my beautiful family, and I smile at the life I get to live and the impact I have on my clients.

What is my superpower?

I speak little, listen a lot, and make life intentional with every word and action. I care deeply and give heartfelt connection wherever I go.

Why did I become a counselor?

I am a counselor because I feel it is the most meaningful career that exists. I am in the business of empowering people to be their best selves. I get the opportunity to guide people during the most challenging times in their life and be a passionate support system for them while they find their rhythm.

What type of therapy do I offer?

I offer person-centered therapy, nature-based therapy, inner child work, reparenting, goal-oriented therapy, and spiritual counseling.

What does my therapy style help address?

Major life transitions (health challenges, breakups/divorce, and career changes), anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, trauma, spiritual growth, grief/loss, and addiction.

Why choose therapy with me?

You will have an empathetic and charismatic witness on your journey who invests his heartfelt connection in you. You will learn new ways of showing up in the world and take away the skills and tools needed to feel empowered and connected to all of life around you. You will also be working with someone who dedicates himself to continual growth and healing. I don't know it all and will most likely never know everything. I will seek to understand what I don't know, increase my awareness, and share my authentic self with you.

My Journey

After finishing college, I landed my first career in healthcare. I was an allergy specialist in a family care setting. I helped over 300 clients increase their energy and build a stronger immune system. Clients felt more energized. Providers were able to buy new health technologies. I was making an impact on the health of my clients. It was a win all over, right?

As I began working with more clients throughout the years, I noticed something wasn’t right. Almost half of my clients reported a decrease in their energy and health over time. There had to be more impacting their physical health, but I wasn’t sure what it was. I felt I was only touching the surface of a deep-rooted problem.

With a closer look, I became aware that clients who opened up to me about their challenges noted more energy. Clients who shared very little during their appointments reported feeling tired.

It wasn't long after making this connection that a company-wide layoff happened and I was out of a job. I felt my impact and success crumble and I had no idea what I would do next with my life. Shortly after, I began to develop severe heart and immune challenges that made me feel like I was going to die. I remember lying in an Epsom salt bath feeling like my world was ending. While in the bath I shared with my wife all that she needed to do before and after I passed, it was the scariest time of my life.

I woke up one day feeling this way was not an option, I wanted to feel better. I was only 27 years old and knew there was more for me in this life. After praying for guidance, I set out to see what was happening. Test after test, medicine after medicine, nothing made me feel better. All tests showed that I was healthy and nothing was wrong with me. How could I be healthy when I felt tired all the time, I had a rapid heart rate, and I kept feeling like I was going to faint?

I then thought of my beautiful clients who had each gone through their health challenges with me. Remembering several of their stories, I knew it was time to tell mine. I found an integrative doctor who was also a shamanic coach. She helped her clients connect with nature, which is something I had never done before. She started with testing and supplementation, which helped a little. It wasn't until I began sharing my story that I noticed an improvement in my health. Sharing my truth and being vulnerable was challenging. It was painful and I wanted to give up most of the time. I spent $20,000 and 2 years traveling from medical office to medical office with no answers. This was my last effort to increase my health so I committed to making it work. Miraculously, after 6 months of working with her, I began to feel energy and vitality in my body again. I felt alive! I even stopped taking my supplements because I was eating such nutritious foods.

This experience was life-changing and taught me so many valuable lessons. I learned that mental health is key in achieving optimal health. While physical symptoms are real, they begin in the mind and then work their way through the body. Sharing my problems and pains helped me to become aware of patterns that were decreasing my energy and making me sick. The biggest lesson I took from my experience was to follow my heart and share its wisdom, my heart wanted to speak.

It has been 4 years since I have had any health challenges. I have no pain in my heart. I am energized. And instead of traveling to medical offices, I travel to nature spots and hike all over the nation. I feel more alive and energized than I did during my college years! I am now able to tune into my heart’s wisdom and allow it to guide me to true health freedom. After all, health is wealth!
